Bakuman, stylized as Bakuman。 (バクマン。), is a shōnen manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and drawn by Takeshi Obata, who also worked together on the popular manga Death Note. She is a first-year student at Kunahama Academy who admires Misaki greatly. The series follows talented artist Moritaka Mashiro and aspiring writer Akito Takagi, two ninth grade boys who wish to become mangaka. Mashiro is also referred to as Saikō (サイコー) by his friends, as it is an alternative way of reading his name. When his classmate and aspiring writer Akito Takagi discovers his talent, he begs Moritaka to team up with him as a manga-creating duo. But Mashiro is hesitant—his uncle, a mangaka, had died from overworking just a few years prior. He longs to be a mangaka, but his uncle died from pursuing the same passion, so Moritaka is pressured into leading a normal life and leaving his ambitions behind.
