US$16.85 US$17.77. During the Great Depression in the 1930s, he designed and painted murals for the Works Progress Administration. Before World War I, in which Charlot served, he tried to make a living as a church mural painter, referring to himself as “a liturgical artist.” In the U.S., Charlot executed commissions for the Work Projects Administration's Federal Arts Project, including the creation of murals for Straubenmuller Textile High Schoolin Manhattan during 1934–1935,and, in 1942, an oil on canvas mural for the post office in McDonough, Georgiatitled Cotton Gin, 4.5 ft × 11 ft (1.4 m × 3.4 m). The Mural "Hawaiian Drummers" by Jean Charlot (1950), for the John Young Residence In 1928, Charlot moved to New York City, and participated in a number of important shows.
