duplicity movie review

Directed by Tony Gilroy, the film follows the story of corporate spies who partner up for the con project of the century. Duplicity (2009) Claire Stenwick (Julia Roberts) and Ray Koval (Clive Owen) are former government operatives who are now collecting big paychecks from rival companies as corporate spies. With compelling twists and a great look at corporate espionage, this film from director Tony Gilroy is bogged down by a nonlinear narrative and a lackluster romance. A stylish, yet flawed, romantic crime comedy, Duplicity is a mixed bag. The movie’s title is also reflected in the rivalry between the two companies and their CEOs. It has romance, action, adventure and a terrific surprise ending!

Even the stars Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, and Paul Giamatti (my personal favorite) could not salvage this shipwreck of a film.

Lifeless Julia appears to be on some sort of psychotropic drug, masking her usual persona of adaptably inept while at the same time mouthing useless, bland, annoyingly stupid and banal phrases at poor Clive-it seemed we saw that scene in replicate, many times.

This is a fun, very entertaining movie that relies on intelligence rather than overt sexual scenes to make it appealing and interesting.
