Celeste Ng (Chinese: 伍綺詩) (born July 30, 1980) is an American writer and novelist. Her most recent novel is Little Fires Everywhere. Ng's short story Girls at Play won a Pushcart Prize in 2012, and was a 2015 recipient of the Alex Awards. Celeste Ng Biography Celeste Ng grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Shaker Heights, Ohio, in a family of scientists. Ng is a first-generation Chinese-American, and her parents immigrated from Hong Kong before her birth. She attended Harvard University and earned an MFA from the University of Michigan (now the Helen Zell Writers' Program at the University of Michigan), where she won the Hopwood Award. Ng's first novel, Everything I Never Told You, released on June 26, 2014, won the Amazon Book of the Year award, as well as praise from critics. At age ten, Ng's family moved to Shaker Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Her first novel, Everything I Never Told You (2014), was a New York Times bestseller, a New York Times Notable Book of 2014, Amazon’s #1 Best Book of 2014, and named a best book of the year by over a dozen publications. In interviews, Ng often mentions that she grew up in a "family of scientists."
